Braces in Alpharetta, GA
Dr. Dierkes performs braces for the residents of Alpharetta, GA
What are Braces?
Braces are devices installed on the teeth to correct gaps or other irregularities. Adjustments must be made gradually to correct the teeth without causing excessive discomfort. Allergies to nickel, which is an irreplaceable component of stainless steel, may necessitate the use of alternative materials. Titanium and gold are common materials for individuals with nickel allergies.
How is the Braces Procedure Performed?
The orthodontist must first examine the patient’s teeth to gauge their suitability for braces. The shape of the jaw and the desired appearance of the teeth must be taken into consideration. Once it is determined that braces are a good option for the patient, a mold is taken of the teeth. These molds are used to design braces that will make the desired corrections. The braces are installed by bonding brackets to the teeth with a strong adhesive. Wires are then placed through the brackets; these provide the necessary force to correct the orientation of the teeth. The braces are removed after the teeth are aligned correctly. The duration of wearing braces depends on a variety of factors, but only extreme cases require them to be on for more than a few years.
