Braces in Atlanta, GA
Dr. Dierkes performs braces for the residents of Atlanta, GA. Tooth misalignment does not only affect your personal relationships, it can also affect your employment and even your health. In severe cases, misaligned teeth can be painful and affect the ability to eat. Even oral hygiene can be an issue, as it can be difficult to floss or brush in areas where food and plaque builds up, causing halitosis, oral infections, and possibly even cavities. Traditional braces are one way to correct the problem, so that dental issues do not have to control your life.
What are Braces?
Braces are corrective devices applied to the flat surfaces of the teeth. They are traditionally made from metal wire that is threaded through metal brackets, although they can also come in different, less visible forms such as aligner trays. Braces are used to gradually move a patient’s teeth into alignment by tightening the wire until the teeth shift into place.
How is the Braces Procedure Performed?
Braces are applied by first fixing metal brackets to the surface of each tooth that needs to be corrected. Then, metal wire is threaded through the metal brackets, and gradually tightened over the course of several months to a few years. Over time, the teeth shift into place with each alignment. As the treatment progresses, the orthodontist regularly checks the teeth to ensure they are responding appropriately to treatment, and makes any adjustments as needed.
