Eating with Braces

After your braces are placed, initially it may be tough to eat certain foods as your teeth may be sore. Foods such as meats and raw vegetables should be avoided until you are more comfortable. For the first week after your braces are placed, stick to softer foods that will not strain your teeth. Once your soreness goes away, you’ll be able to eat most anything you like, with a few exceptions.

Foods to Avoid

While most foods are not a problem, there are a few which can damage your braces if eaten. During your treatment with braces, take care to avoid the following foods:

  • Hard breads or rolls
  • Apples
  • Corn on the cob
  • Gum
  • Candy
  • Ice
