Prolozone
Prolozone is an injected treatment that restores circulation and provides the ingredients needed for damaged tissue to heal. The injection is a combination of procaine to lower pain levels, homeopathic dose steroid hormones for calming an overactive immune system, specific nutrients to target tissue healing, homeopathic anti-inflammatory compounds, and oxygen/ozone so that the cells can actively participate in regeneration.
It halts the pain/inflammation cycle and increases circulation to improve nutrition and hydration of the damaged tissues. This allows for a healing environment to develop within the affected areas and typically results in increased range of motion and decreased pain.
How Can Prolozone Help Me?
Most importantly, Prolozone decreases pain by increasing circulation to ligaments and joints. Procaine re-polarizes injured cell membranes and improves circulation. Homeopathic anti-inflammatory medications reduce inflammation and swelling, which also results in improved circulation. Glucose, vitamins and minerals critical for mitochondrial function are provided. This increases cellular energy, oxygen utilization and healing.
What Can I Expect from Treatments with Prolozone Therapy?
Ozone stimulates circulation and increases energy production in cells by increasing oxygen utilization. It breaks down into peroxides, which have been shown to stimulate growth factors, so fibroblast cells get what they need to reproduce/proliferate. Circulation and cell membrane stability improve, and tissues are able to heal.
First, you can expect a decrease in pain immediately and over time. Prolozone is a subclass of regenerative medicine and has been used to stimulate the regeneration of cartilage and ligaments, provide improvements in chronic injuries and degeneration of joints, expedite recovery from sports injuries, and general improvement of chronic pain in joints, muscles, and nerves.
Prolozone can be injected into joints, under the skin, and into tendons and muscle. People’s response to treatment varies, but most only need 3-5 treatments for a specific condition. Many people are pain free after this treatment.

What Is the Difference between Prolozone vs. Prolotherapy?
Prolozone
- Prolozone uses oxygen to promote healing.
- Prolozone is administered with little to no pain and people may be pain free faster. It is less expensive because it works quickly.
- Prolozone can be effective in regenerating the cartilage in damaged areas
Prolotherapy
- Prolotherapy uses inflammation to induce fibroblast hypertrophy and growth (strengthens ligaments.)
- Prolotherapy can be painful, and takes longer for healing to be complete.
- Prolotherapy is helpful for ligament/tendon laxity. (Prolozone may help with this as well)
How Much Time Does Treatment Take?
A treatment takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. Explanation of the process and options, and ensuing discussion, can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour at the first appointment, before any injections are made. Physical examination and review of imaging studies, then preparation and/or draping of the involved areas and preparation of supplies is the larger part of any treatment session. The injections themselves do not take much time at all.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
People’s response to treatment varies, but most only need 3-5 treatments for a specific condition. Many people are pain free after this treatment.
How Much Does Prolozone Cost?
Dr. Dierkes will need to see you to evaluate you before your injections. If you are new to the practice you may need a complete evaluation. If you are being referred by another practitioner just to have the injection performed, you may only require a short evaluation.
Usually sixty minute evaluations are scheduled in advance of your injection appointment so that Dr. Dierkes can review all options with you and select the best treatment to address your needs.
*Fees for the exams are billed separately from the fees for the injections. Prolozone pricing is based on the number of areas addressed. This service may be reimbursed by insurance and is billed as Trigger Point Therapy.
Do I Need a Prescription for Prolozone?
Yes. You will need to schedule an appointment with Dr. Dierkes who is certified in the use of medical ozone prior to your injection appointment. This allows time to review your imaging results and decide if Prolozone is the right treatment for you.

Is There a Reason I Should Not Do Prolozone?
Anyone with an ACUTELY herniated disk should not do Prolozone. Otherwise it is generally safe and well tolerated.
How Can I Prepare for My Appointment?
