Child Braces
Award-Winning Orthontic Treatment
About Child Braces
Most childhood orthodontic treatments start between ages 5 and 7, a time in life where problems with the teeth and jaw are more easily corrected. Child braces help younger patients gain picture-perfect smiles as well as learn good oral habits that will protect their teeth throughout their life.
Treatment with Child Braces
Child braces are used to move the teeth or jaw to correct positioning by applying gentle, continuous pressure over time. The length of treatment will vary from child to child and will be determined by several factors, including the following:
- The issues requiring treatment
- Spacing of teeth and the distance they need to move
- Room available in the mouth
- Health of the teeth, gums, and bone
Most child braces are worn from one to three years, and a retainer may be used upon their removal to ensure lasting results. Treatment with child braces will involve multiple appointments to make adjustments on the wires, springs, and bands used with the braces. Children may experience discomfort, particularly after adjustments, which can be treated with over-the-counter medications.

Why Choose Dr. Dierkes?
Dr. Dierkes is committed to providing patients with a naturopathic approach to orthodontic and TMJ treatments. His “All Things Considered” approach to orthodontic treatment carefully considers the relationships among teeth, bone, muscles, TMJ, airway, food allergies, nutritional deficiencies and excesses, and endocrine balances and how each will affect the treatment of the patient.
With a holistic approach to the care he provides, Dr. Dierkes believes in patient education and effective communication which allows each patient to make informed choices about their care and treatment as well as fosters a positive working relationship between doctor and patient. While the naturopathic approach may take more time, the outcome is better for the patient, and the results extend beyond orthodontics and facial esthetics to improve the patient’s overall health.
