Braces and Sports

Patients who wear braces can still enjoy playing sports during the course of their treatment. Braces will not prevent you from participating on school and extracurricular teams or in gym class. You’ll just need to exercise more care to ensure your teeth and braces won’t be affected.

Caring for Braces During Athletic Activity

It is important to protect your teeth and braces during athletic activity as in most sports; there is a risk of getting hit in the mouth. Wearing a protective mouth guard can give you the added protection you need should you be hit. Without a mouth guard, your braces and teeth could be seriously damaged.

If you are injured, check for loose or missing teeth. Also, check your braces for damage and to ensure that the brackets are still adhered to your teeth.
